What 30 Years of Texas Sun Does to Your Skin — and How to Address It

Age spots on your face, chest, and hands are among the most treatable skin concerns we see.

Your face, chest, and hands tell the story of every summer you've spent outdoors. Brown spots, uneven skin tone, fine lines on the chest from sun exposure, and pigmentation that won't respond to anything you've tried at home — these are consistent, predictable results of cumulative UV damage. They're also very treatable. The technology available now is significantly more precise than it was even five years ago, and the results speak for themselves.

At Summer House Medspa, we work with a lot of women who come in knowing exactly what they're looking for. They've done the research, they know the terminology, and they want a provider who can deliver a specific outcome. We appreciate that. We'll do a thorough skin assessment, be direct about which treatments are appropriate for your skin type and tone, and build a plan that addresses your actual concerns — not a one-size-fits-all protocol.

Why Summer House

Face, chest, and hands — not just your face

Sun damage doesn't stop at the jawline. Many providers focus exclusively on the face, but the chest and hands are often the most visibly affected areas — and some of the most gratifying to treat. We offer treatments for all three areas and can combine them in a single session where appropriate.

Melasma is different — and we treat it differently

Not all brown spots are the same. Melasma — a hormonally influenced pigmentation pattern that often appears on the upper lip, forehead, and cheeks — requires a different approach than standard sun spots. Aggressive laser can actually worsen melasma. We assess your pigmentation carefully and match the treatment to the type. If you have melasma, we'll tell you, and we'll recommend the appropriate protocol.

Realistic timelines with compounding results

Some pigmentation clears significantly after a single session. Other patterns take a series of treatments over several months. We'll give you an honest timeline, not an optimistic one. Most clients see meaningful improvement after their first BBL or laser session, with continued clearing over the weeks that follow as treated spots rise to the surface and shed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you treat the age spots on my hands?

Yes. Laser treatment and BBL photofacial can both be performed on the hands with excellent results. Sun spots on the hands often respond very well to even a single session of targeted laser. We recommend a consultation to assess the number and depth of spots and recommend the most efficient approach.

I have spots on my chest from sun damage. What works best?

The décolletage — chest and upper sternum — is one of the areas that shows the most cumulative sun damage over time and one that responds well to BBL photofacial and chemical peels. We typically recommend a series of treatments for the chest given the area involved. Results include improved tone, texture, and reduction in visible pigmentation.

How do I know if I have melasma or regular sun spots?

Melasma typically presents as larger, irregular patches of pigmentation — often symmetrical — on the cheeks, upper lip, or forehead. It tends to darken with sun exposure and hormonal changes. Standard sun spots tend to be smaller, discrete, and more scattered. The distinction matters clinically because the treatment approach is different. We assess this at your consultation before recommending anything.
