Marionette Lines Treatment

Marionette lines run from the corners of the mouth downward toward the chin. They are named for the puppet joints they resemble and tend to create a permanently downturned or stern expression. We address marionette lines with filler to restore volume in the trough, sometimes combined with neuromodulator in the depressor anguli oris muscle to gently lift the corner of the mouth.

Can filler alone fix marionette lines?

Filler addresses the volume deficit in the trough and softens the line itself. For corner of mouth droop, we often combine filler with a small amount of Botox in the depressor anguli oris, the muscle that pulls the mouth corners down. This combination provides better and more balanced results than filler alone in many cases.

How many syringes are needed for marionette lines?

Typically 1 to 2 syringes depending on the depth of the lines and whether we are also addressing the lower face more broadly. We assess your full lower face at consultation because jowling and cheek descent often contribute to marionette depth and may need to be part of the treatment plan.
